Boston Scientific has elevated Sean Fitzgerald to the role of chief operating officer, part of a broader restructuring that reshapes how the medical device maker organizes its business.
The company said the move comes as it works to sharpen its operational focus and speed up decision making across its product lines. Fitzgerald, who has held senior positions within the firm, will take on expanded responsibility for day to day operations and execution of the company's growth strategy.
Alongside Fitzgerald's promotion, Boston Scientific will establish three reportable business segments. The change is intended to give investors and analysts a clearer view of performance across its different areas of operation. The company did not specify a timeline for when the new reporting structure will take effect, though such changes typically roll out over the following quarters.
The reorganization reflects a wider trend among large medical technology companies, which have been streamlining their structures to respond faster to shifting demand and competitive pressure. Boston Scientific has expanded through both internal development and acquisitions in recent years, and the new segment alignment is meant to bring more coherence to that portfolio.
Executives said the leadership change and segment redesign are designed to support long term growth and improve accountability. Further details are expected when the company reports its next round of financial results.
