The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced a settlement with two individuals accused of running an eCommerce business opportunity scam. Trevor Duffy and his associate were charged with misleading consumers by promoting a program that falsely promised significant income through online sales.
According to the FTC, the duo marketed their scheme through various channels, enticing potential investors with claims of effortless profits and minimal effort. Many consumers reported spending substantial amounts of money to participate in the program, only to find that the promised earnings never materialized.
As part of the settlement, Duffy and his partner have agreed to cease their deceptive practices and will be required to provide refunds to affected consumers. The FTC emphasized the importance of protecting consumers from fraudulent business opportunities, urging potential investors to conduct thorough research before committing to any program. This settlement serves as a reminder of the agency's commitment to holding deceptive operators accountable and safeguarding consumer interests in the marketplace.
