Gov. DeSantis gives new Isaias recovery update as crews clear roads, businesses get aid

Gov. DeSantis gives new Isaias recovery update as crews clear roads, businesses get aid

Florida officials are expanding Hurricane Isaias recovery efforts across the Panhandle, with crews clearing debris from rural roads, businesses gaining access to emergency aid, and utility teams working to restore power in the hardest hit areas.

State emergency management teams said road clearing operations have accelerated in recent days, focusing on smaller communities that were cut off after the storm downed trees and power lines. Crews are using heavy equipment to reopen secondary routes that connect farms, homes, and small businesses to main highways. Officials noted that some areas remain without electricity, though repair crews have made steady progress since the storm passed.

Business owners affected by flooding and wind damage can now apply for state assistance programs designed to cover temporary repairs, lost inventory, and other storm related costs. Local officials have set up help centers where residents can ask questions about aid and file paperwork in person.

Emergency managers warned that recovery will take time, especially in rural counties where resources are stretched thin. They urged residents to avoid closed roads and to report downed lines to utility companies rather than trying to move them. Additional supplies and personnel are expected to arrive later this week as assessments continue.
