A Republican lawmaker has issued a stark warning regarding U.S. policy toward Iran, arguing that Tehran needs to see concrete action rather than diplomatic gestures. Representative Carlos Gimenez of Florida voiced concerns about a specific clause in a recent Memorandum of Understanding that touches on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments. Gimenez suggested that such language could be interpreted as a sign of weakness by the Iranian regime.
The congressman also raised alarms over reports that Iran-made drones have been spotted in Cuba. He described this development as a direct threat to American national security, given Cuba's proximity to the U.S. mainland. According to Gimenez, the presence of Iranian technology so close to American shores demands a firm response from the Biden administration.
In a related development, Gimenez criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for meeting with a Cuban delegation. The lawmaker argued that such engagements undermine U.S. foreign policy objectives and send mixed signals to adversaries. He called for a unified approach that prioritizes American interests and demonstrates resolve.
Gimenez emphasized that the United States cannot afford to appear hesitant in its dealings with Iran. "They need to see that we mean business," he said, urging the administration to take a harder line on both the nuclear issue and regional provocations. The congressman's comments reflect growing unease among some lawmakers about the direction of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East and the Western Hemisphere.
