A Kerr County man is facing an unimaginable loss after floodwaters ravaged his home and business for the second time in just over a year. On July 4, 2025, historic flooding from the Guadalupe River swept through the Guadalupe Keys RV Resort, taking everything he had. Then, on July 16, 2026, it happened again.
The man, who asked to be identified only as a longtime resident of the area, said he feels completely lost. He described watching the water rise once more, knowing exactly what was coming. The first flood destroyed his RV and the small business he ran from the property. He had just started to rebuild. He replaced his home, restocked supplies, and was beginning to feel a sense of normalcy. Then the second storm hit.
"I don't know what to do anymore," he said. "You put everything you have into something, and then nature just takes it back. Twice."
Local officials noted that the July 2026 flooding was not as widespread as the previous year's event, but it was concentrated in the same low-lying areas along the river. The Guadalupe Keys RV Resort, located in a flood-prone zone, took the brunt of the damage. Emergency crews performed several water rescues in the area, but no serious injuries were reported.
The man now faces the difficult decision of whether to rebuild again or walk away. He said he loves the land and the community but is unsure if he can endure another round of loss. For now, he is staying with family and trying to figure out his next step. "I feel like I'm stuck in a loop," he said. "I just want it to stop."
