More than two months have passed since a severe storm sent water pouring into Cheri's Berries Cafe and Play, and the business still has not reopened. Owner Cherish Matias says the flooding was not just bad luck. She claims the roof was installed improperly, which turned a heavy rain into a disaster for her shop.
The cafe, which also served as a play space for children, has been sitting empty since the storm hit. Matias said the water damage was extensive, ruining floors, furniture, and much of the equipment needed to run the business. She has been working with insurance adjusters and contractors, but the process has been slow.
Matias believes the roof installation was faulty from the start, and she is looking into legal options. She said the company that installed the roof has not taken responsibility. For now, regular customers are left waiting. Many have reached out on social media, asking when the doors will open again. Matias says she hopes to rebuild, but she cannot give a timeline until the insurance claims are settled. She added that the community's support has been overwhelming, and she is determined to bring the cafe back.
