Standlee to pay $16.9 million for Anderson Hay's business

Standlee to pay $16.9 million for Anderson Hay's business

Anderson Hay and Grain has reached an agreement to sell the bulk of its business operations to Standlee Hay Company, a major player in the forage market. The proposed deal, valued at 16.9 million dollars, covers Anderson's equipment, customer contracts, inventory, and other operational assets. Notably, the agreement does not include Anderson's real estate holdings, which will remain with the current owners.

The transaction now requires approval from the bankruptcy court overseeing Anderson's Chapter 11 case. Standlee, known for its alfalfa and grass products, is seeking permission to move forward with the purchase. Court documents indicate that the sale would allow Anderson to pay down its debts while preserving jobs and continuing supply to its existing customers.

Anderson Hay, based in the Pacific Northwest, has been a longstanding exporter of hay to markets in Asia, particularly Japan and South Korea. The company faced financial strain in recent years due to rising shipping costs and shifting demand. If the court approves the sale, Standlee would take over Anderson's processing facilities and its network of grower contracts.

A hearing on the matter is expected in the coming weeks. Standlee has said it plans to keep Anderson's brand alive, at least for the near term, while integrating the operations into its own supply chain. No layoffs have been announced as part of the deal.
