The Void fills a gap for small businesses, creatives in Virginia Beach

A new shared workspace in Virginia Beach is giving small businesses and creatives a place to grow without going it alone. Called The Void, the space opened its doors earlier this year with a focus on collaboration over isolation. Co-owner Shaina Hartless said the goal was simple: build a creative environment where businesses could develop on their own terms while still feeling connected to a larger community.

The Void offers a mix of private offices, shared desks, and common areas designed for freelancers, artists, and small startups. Hartless and her team noticed a gap in the local market for affordable, flexible workspaces that also encouraged networking and idea sharing. Instead of just renting out desks, they wanted to create a hub where people could bump into each other, swap skills, and find new clients.

Early feedback has been positive. Members say the space helps them avoid the loneliness of working from home while keeping costs lower than a traditional office lease. Hartless also plans to host workshops and networking events to strengthen the community further. For now, The Void is filling a real need in Virginia Beach, giving small operators a place to call their own without the heavy overhead.
