Women's Business Center celebrates grand-reopening with partners, success stories

A couple hesitated near the entrance Tuesday morning as roughly 50 people gathered to celebrate the grand reopening of the MCSC Kern Women's Business Center on California Avenue. The event drew local entrepreneurs, business leaders, and supporters who came to tour the refreshed facility and hear firsthand accounts from women who built their companies with help from the center.

The center, which provides training, mentoring, and access to capital for women-owned businesses, has been a resource in the community for years. The reopening marks an update to its space and services, designed to better meet the needs of a growing number of female entrepreneurs in the region.

Several success stories were shared during the ceremony. One woman described how she launched a catering business after attending workshops at the center. Another spoke about securing her first small business loan through the center's partnership with local lenders. These stories highlighted the center's role in turning ideas into viable enterprises.

Partners from local banks, economic development groups, and city offices attended to show support. They emphasized the importance of providing dedicated resources for women, who often face unique barriers when starting or scaling a business. The center's director noted that the renovated space includes new meeting rooms and a resource library, making it easier for clients to access one-on-one counseling and group classes.

The couple who initially held back eventually stepped inside. By the end of the tour, they had signed up for a consultation.
