Amazon Prime plane overruns runway at Miami airport

A cargo plane operating for Amazon Prime overshot the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, slamming into several vehicles and sending thick black smoke into the sky. Video footage from the scene shows the aircraft resting on its belly near a grassy area, with fire crews dousing the wreckage as emergency lights flashed across the tarmac.

The plane, which had just arrived from a domestic route, failed to stop in time and plowed through a perimeter fence before striking multiple cars parked in a nearby lot. Witnesses reported hearing a loud screech followed by a heavy impact. Firefighters arrived within minutes and managed to contain the blaze, though the smoke was visible for miles.

Officials confirmed that all crew members on board were safely evacuated, with no serious injuries reported. The vehicles that were hit appeared to be empty at the time of the crash, which likely prevented a far worse outcome. The airport temporarily halted operations on one runway while cleanup crews worked to remove the damaged aircraft and debris.

The Federal Aviation Administration has opened an investigation into the cause of the incident. Early indications point to a possible mechanical issue or a landing approach that went wrong, but nothing has been confirmed. Amazon has not yet issued a statement, though the company is known to contract with several cargo airlines for its air delivery network.

Passengers at the airport experienced delays of about an hour as a result of the closure. The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to send a team to examine the aircraft's data recorders and interview the flight crew. This incident adds to a string of recent runway overruns across the country, prompting renewed calls for stricter safety checks on cargo carriers.
