A business jet carrying nine people crashed into a residential neighborhood in Florida on Sunday, bursting into a massive fireball that destroyed homes and sent thick black smoke across the area.
The aircraft went down shortly after departure, according to officials, coming to rest among houses in a community near the airport. Emergency crews rushed to the scene as flames spread from the wreckage to at least one home. Firefighters worked for hours to bring the blaze under control.
All nine people on board were killed, authorities confirmed. No injuries on the ground have been reported so far, though several residents were evacuated as a precaution. The impact left a trail of debris scattered across lawns and streets.
Witnesses described hearing a loud explosion before seeing a plume of smoke rise above the treeline. One resident said the sound shook windows and sent neighbors running outside.
The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into the cause of the crash. Officials have not yet released the names of the victims or details about the flight's destination. The airport remained closed while investigators combed the wreckage for evidence.
Local leaders expressed condolences to the families of those lost and praised first responders for their quick action. The neighborhood remains cordoned off as the cleanup and investigation continue.
