Downtown Sacramento is preparing for a busy night as the Kings return to Golden 1 Center for their home opener. Businesses near the arena are rolling out new offerings to capture the game-day energy, hoping to draw fans before and after tipoff.

A new team store has opened in the area, giving supporters a place to pick up gear on their way to the arena. Nearby bars and restaurants are mixing up Kings-themed drinks and offering game-day discounts to encourage visitors to arrive early and stay late.

Owners say the home opener brings a surge of foot traffic that sets the tone for the season. Staffing has been increased and orders stocked in anticipation of packed rooms. For many businesses, the return of basketball season means a reliable boost during a stretch when downtown could use the extra activity.
