UC grads launch mobile ice cream business

Two University of Cincinnati graduates have turned a shared passion into a mobile scoop shop, bringing handcrafted ice cream to the streets of the Queen City. The duo, who relocated to Cincinnati in 2012, were searching for a creative and fulfilling side project to complement their demanding full-time careers. What started as a weekend hobby in their home kitchens quickly evolved into a business plan, culminating in a retro-fitted vintage trailer that now serves up unique flavors at local events and neighborhoods.

The founders, both working professionals in unrelated fields, spent months perfecting their recipes and sourcing local dairy. They wanted to offer something beyond the standard vanilla and chocolate, experimenting with seasonal ingredients like honey from nearby farms and fresh-picked berries. Their menu rotates regularly, featuring bold combinations such as bourbon caramel pretzel and lavender honey.

Launching a food business while holding down other jobs has required careful scheduling and late nights. The partners handle everything from churning the base to scrubbing the trailer after a long day of serving. Despite the challenges, they say the reward comes from seeing customers' faces light up with that first bite. They plan to expand their route this summer, hitting more festivals and corporate events, with the long-term goal of opening a permanent brick-and-mortar location. For now, they are happy to keep the wheels turning, one cone at a time.
