Azizza Davis Goines, the longtime leader of the Capital Black Chamber of Commerce, is preparing to close a two-decade chapter of leadership that helped expand opportunities for Black entrepreneurs and businesses across the Sacramento region.
Davis Goines has served as president and CEO of the organization for 20 years, building it into a stronger advocate for Black-owned businesses. Under her direction, the chamber focused on access to capital, contract opportunities, and mentorship for entrepreneurs who often faced barriers in traditional business networks.
Colleagues describe her tenure as one defined by persistence and relationship building. She worked to connect small business owners with local government agencies, banks, and corporate partners, while also pushing for policies that support minority-owned enterprises.
Her retirement marks a significant transition for the chamber, which now must identify new leadership to carry forward its mission. Board members say a search process will begin in the coming months, and they intend to honor Davis Goines' legacy by continuing the programs she helped establish.
Davis Goines has not announced specific plans for her retirement, though she has said she intends to remain engaged in community and economic development efforts. Supporters credit her with raising the visibility of Black business concerns in the capital region and creating a lasting foundation for future growth.
