NORTH LAS VEGAS -- Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) traded his suit for an apron this week as part of his ongoing "Congressman on the Job" initiative. The program takes the representative directly into Nevada workplaces to see the daily pressures faced by workers, small business owners, and local families across the Fourth District.
This time, Horsford stepped into a commercial kitchen to work alongside restaurant staff and management. The visit focused on the real-world impact of rising supply costs, labor shortages, and tight margins that have pushed many local eateries to the breaking point. Horsford spent time prepping food, cleaning stations, and talking with employees about their concerns.
"These are the people who keep our economy running, but they are being squeezed from every direction," Horsford said during the shift. He noted that many small business owners are struggling to keep their doors open while dealing with inflation and difficulty finding reliable workers.
The congressman has made stops at various job sites across the district since launching the series, including construction zones and manufacturing floors. The kitchen visit was meant to draw attention to the specific crisis facing the food service industry, which employs a significant number of residents in the area.
Horsford said he plans to use the insights from these shifts to push for policies that provide direct relief to small businesses, including tax credits and expanded access to affordable childcare for working parents.
