Authorities in Lower Merion Township have announced the arrest of two individuals accused of running a coordinated fraud operation through fictitious home improvement businesses. The pair allegedly targeted local residents, leaving a trail of financial loss and unfinished projects.
Police detail that the suspects would solicit work door-to-door or via flyers, offering services like paving, roofing, and masonry at seemingly attractive rates. After securing a deposit or partial payment, the work would either begin poorly and be abandoned, or not start at all. The accused allegedly used multiple business names to avoid detection and consumer complaints.
Following several victim reports, a lengthy investigation led to charges including theft by deception, receiving stolen property, and criminal conspiracy. As the case develops, detectives are actively working to identify additional victims who may have encountered similar schemes but have not yet come forward. Residents who believe they may have been defrauded are urged to contact the Lower Merion Police Department's Detective Division with any relevant information or documentation related to suspicious contracting work.
